Greetings College KIPPsters
It’s that time of year when you finally get to return home to reconnect with your family and friends, consume some good food and revive yourself with a bit of rest and relaxation. Whether or not it is your tradition to celebrate Thanksgiving, there’s one thing that you can’t deny – there’s always something to be thankful for! You have been fortunate to have the opportunity to pursue a college education. Now, I know it’s not all easy and fun, but for the most part, your college experience is what you make of it.
Challenge yourself to become more of a critical thinker. Engage your family and friends in discussions that range from music to politics. Don’t limit yourself to the views of Vibe or XXL magazines; but also see what the New York Times and Wall Street Journal have to say. As college students, young adults, and conscious citizens, you should constantly be looking at ways to elevate yourself.
You have the ability to sit and reflect with those close to you at this time of year. One of my childhood friends would say to me, “If nothing else, ‘Mika’, you should always give thanks for life, health and strength”; and I pass these same sentiments on to you – give thanks for life, health and strength. Enjoy your time home and re-fuel for the remainder of the semester and final exams.
I would also like to remind you about registering for classes. Many of you have already taken on this task and I commend you for being proactive. Course selection should not be taken lightly. Taking the wrong course now, could cost you an on-time graduation later. Be sure to consult with your academic or faculty advisor, especially if this is your first year.
If you aren’t aware, you usually have a curriculum guide of some kind that outlines all of the courses needed to successfully complete your program for your degree. Your faculty or academic advisor can assist you with locating this resource. If you really do not know who to talk with or where to begin contact me and I will assist you with getting that ball rolling. When you wait too long, all the good class times get taken. Don’t be the one stuck with all the 7:30am classes, unless that’s what you want of course! J

Have a safe and great Thanksgiving Break!
