Welcome to our NEW Blog!!

Greetings College KIPPsters!!

Welcome to the new College KIPP Alumni Blog. Periodically, information will be posted to assist you with your journey through college. We will share tips that offer advice on studying to basic survival skills and more. If you have questions or would like to see a specific topic addressed, please do not hesitate to share your thoughts and let us know. Attached, you will find a video from everyone on the KIPP Alumni team saying hello and an introduction from me, Ms. Tamika Harrison, your new College Support Advisor.

I join the team with a wealth of knowledge in higher education. I have worked with students at 4 year institutions in New England and most recently Prince George's Community College in Maryland. My expertise includes academic advising, student social support and development, financial aid, study skills, and more. I look forward to connecting with all of you. I know that all of your situations are unique and I will work with you to ensure your success through your college experience.

Those of you who are entering your first year are experiencing a different level of academic and personal expectations and responsibility. You are also being exposed to a new social network both with your peers and the adults (faculty and staff) around you. There are some of you who will transition into your new environment with undeniable ease and there are some of you who will have to work a little harder at adjusting. Remember, you are not alone in your transition. There are many first year students who are having similar experiences to yours. Reach out and make connections. This is one step you can take to help with making your transition easier.

Those of you who are beginning your second year have achieved a huge milestone.  You successfully completed your first year of college!!! You are no longer the “young crew” on campus! You have become familiar with the cycle of a year in college and as such you now know some of what to expect entering your second year. I will encourage you not to get too cocky though, you still have much to learn, lol.

I congratulate all of you on your accomplishments this year and I urge you not to get discouraged through those difficult times. Those difficult times help you develop character!

Until next time…CRUSH the negative, EMBRACE your positive, and STEP into the growing new you!!

Build a Better Tomorrow!
